Why the route is well known
The Ankara–Kars corridor crosses a large part of central and eastern Türkiye and is widely associated with the Doğu Ekspresi, or Eastern Express. Travellers are drawn to the changing landscapes and the experience of a long rail journey rather than simply the fastest trip between two cities.

Doğu Ekspresi versus Turistik Doğu Ekspresi
The regular Doğu Ekspresi and Turistik Doğu Ekspresi are distinct products. Compare their current operating dates, stops, accommodation and sales arrangements rather than using the names interchangeably. The tourist service’s itinerary and sightseeing stops should not be promised to someone booking the regular train.
Check whether the displayed amount is for one traveller, one berth or a whole compartment, and what is included. A room or compartment total must not be read as a per-person fare. Seasonal availability can be constrained; confirm a real ticket before arranging non-refundable accommodation around it.

Tourist season and what the ticket includes
When checked on 11 October 2026, TCDD’s tourist-service page listed Ankara–Kars departures within 21 December 2026–10 March 2027 and Kars–Ankara departures within 23 December 2026–12 March 2027. These are seasonal date ranges, not daily departures or proof of seats on sale. Consult the current calendar for your chosen direction.
The operator’s tourist-train contract treats a rail ticket as a one-way train journey. Meals, hotels, guided visits and local transfers are not automatically included. An agency package may contain additional services under separate terms. Check the tourist service’s own change and refund contract instead of applying ordinary YHT rules.
