Plan a train journey in Türkiye

Start with the route, exact stations and travel date. Use YHT for the high-speed corridors, compare conventional or regional trains elsewhere, and add city transport or a road transfer where the railway does not reach your destination.

TCDD, TCDD Taşımacılık and YHT

TCDD Taşımacılık operates the YHT, mainline and regional passenger trains covered in this guide. TCDD is the national railway infrastructure organisation; the names are related but do not describe identical roles. Yüksek Hızlı Tren, shortened to YHT, is a high-speed service brand, not a separate ticket seller. Urban metro and tram systems have their own operators and ticket arrangements.

Where rail travel is most useful

High-speed services link major Central Anatolian cities and Istanbul, while regional trains are useful around İzmir and other local corridors. Overnight and long-distance trains can support slower cross-country journeys. Always check the exact departure station because cities such as Istanbul use more than one rail terminal.

  • Match the route with the correct station and service type.
  • Confirm current schedules on an official TCDD Taşımacılık channel.
  • Allow time for station access, security, and platform information.

How to use TurkeyTrain

TurkeyTrain combines bilingual travel guides with train-time and fare searches. Eligible direct-train services can be booked for adults aged 18 or over. Our team issues tickets manually after payment; seats are confirmed only when the ticket is issued. If we cannot issue your ticket, we refund the full payment. Check the full station name, date, fare and passenger details before paying.

Choose a route before a ticket

For a first rail itinerary, begin with the Istanbul–Ankara, Ankara–Konya or Istanbul–Eskişehir high-speed corridors. For the Aegean coast, compare regional trains from İzmir Basmane toward Selçuk and Denizli. These are different types of journeys: a YHT reservation process should not be assumed to describe every regional train.

Rail coverage does not extend to every holiday destination. Göreme in Cappadocia and the Pamukkale visitor sites require road transport from a suitable rail gateway. Plan those transfers before buying accommodation or activities tied to an arrival time.
